The Mt. Anbo-san is the mountain located in northeast of Hida city, at the altitude of 1,058m. It is popular for beginners and intermediates as a mountaineering route. There is the observation platform on its top that is commanding fine views of the Furukawa Kokufu Basin from Hida city to Takayama city, the peaks of Hakusan and Mt. Ontake.

The Hida Carpenters engrave their original decoration on the bracket under the eaves of the house which they built. It is something like a crest and called “KUMO” which is the remarkable feature of houses in Hida area. It means cloud and is wished to prevent from the fire.

Furukawa matsuri in April.

The Furukawa Festival is the annual festival of The Ketawakamiya Shrine, and is held on April 19 and 20. The Furukawa Festival as a grand historic drama, consists of three events, the historic “The Goshinko Procession of portable shrine” include religious ceremony in the shrine, dynamic “The Okoshi Daiko” and static “The Yatai float parade”.

Spring in Japan is known for the blooming of cherry blossoms. The blooming period is only for a very short one to two weeks. Because of the short blooming period, cherry blossoms are thought to be symbolic of the concept that “nothing is permanent”.
